VIRTUAL COACH
Julian Posas discovered powerlifting in 2018 after his final football season during his senior year of high school. Having previously played football, soccer, and wrestled, he was seeking a new competitive outlet. After immersing himself in the discipline and realizing his aptitude for it, he decided to pursue it more seriously. This newfound passion for Human Performance/Health & Wellness led him to pursue a degree in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Exercise Science at James Madison University, where he became a first-generation college student.
In 2019, Julian competed in his first powerlifting competition, solidifying his desire to excel in the sport. His journey into coaching began with his roommate, who became his first client, providing him with an entry point into the coaching world. As his coaching interest expanded, Julian took his services online, working with clients who trusted him.
Having quickly grown interested in the sport, in both a coaching and competing context, Julian quickly saw success early in his Powerlifting career, as he secured first place in the 83kg weight class T3 division at 2019 Raw Nationals in Chicago, Illinois.
Throughout his time at James Madison University, Julian not only pursued his academic studies but also founded the JMU Powerlifting Club, fostering a community within the university. Simultaneously, he built a roster of 25 clients while balancing his academic commitments.
Recognizing the importance of continual learning, Julian sought further education beyond his degree. He participated in the Yardcat Powerlifting Mentorship, taught by Sean Collins and Brad Couillard. Additionally, he attended various seminars on programming strategies and biomechanics related to the big three lifts all while completing his undergraduate studies.
Julian's passion for sports performance led him to intern with the JMU Olympic Sports staff, where he collaborated with strength and conditioning professionals, such as Matthew Holden and Dr. Christian Carter, assisting in training programs and data collection for various Division-1 NCAA teams.
After graduating, Julian founded Juli Strength Systems LLC, where he coached a roster of 20-25 athletes with national-level potential. He further honed his skills through an internship with Sincere Training Systems under Sean Collins and a mentorship with Matt Holden under Barbell Union.
Julian's combined experience in strength and conditioning, alongside powerlifting, has shaped him into the coach he is today, allowing him to approach the sport from a unique perspective. He values simplicity in coaching and aims to ensure that athletes understand the reasoning behind their training protocols.
Outside of his coaching endeavors, Julian works at Leidos within the Health/Civil Sector as a Business Development Management Analyst. In his personal life, he resides in Ashburn, Virginia, with his two-year-old American Bully, Tank, who despite his muscular build, is a "squishy marshmallow." Though Julian no longer competes, he remains dedicated to his training as a lifestyle athlete and enjoys spending his leisure time golfing.
