SENIOR VIRTUAL COACH
“Helping someone become the best version of themselves has been something I've held dear for as long as I can remember. Both my father and grandmother were teachers. Seeing the impact they had on their students' lives showed me you can change someone's life with the right guidance and attitude. This made me want to do the same in powerlifting. I want to help guide people to being the best versions of themselves with a positive attitude.”
Austin Perkins is widely regarded as one of the greatest powerlifters of all time. With over a decade of competitions under his belt as both a raw and equipped lifter, he holds a number of American and world records in the 74/75 kg weight classes. He has loved powerlifting for as long as he can remember, starting in 2012 while still in high school in an effort to get stronger for football. After a few years of competing in Powerlifting, he got his first taste of coaching when his high school’s women's powerlifting coach asked for his assistance during his senior year.
Following his high school Powerlifting experience, Austin was recruited to be a part of Midland University’s Powerlifting team which was led by renowned coach Tim Anderson. While completing his bachelor's degree in education, he represented Midland’s team well, winning 2 Junior National Championships (1 raw, 1 equipped), 2 collegiate national championships (equipped), 1 Open Equipped National Championship, and 1 IPF University World Championship.
Seeing coaching figures, such as his father and Tim Anderson, change students' lives inspired Austin to shift his focus away from teaching and to coaching.
“Witnessing the progression of athletes is so amazing. I love how the little things make the biggest difference. Form is the biggest thing to me. I feel that yes it is easy to get stronger, but if you don't have the form down to memory how far can you actually go.”
Speaking in volumes to his own slow and steady climb to the top of Powerlifting, Austin is a firm believer of the quote “trust the process”. He’s eager to show young lifters that in due time anything is possible. He strives to supply his athletes with all the tools needed to perform to the best of their ability on and off of the platform. Austin subscribes heavily to a collaborative approach to coaching. “When it comes to working with my athletes we are partners. When we are working together we are a well-oiled machine. As long as we're both doing our part there is nothing we can't achieve.”
